Solites is a Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Thermal Energy Systems within the Steinbeis network. Solites was founded in May 2005 by former members of the Institute for Thermodynamics and Thermal Engineering of the University of Stuttgart.
The Steinbeis network for know-how and technology transfer was created by the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1971. Today it gathers different business areas as a holding company. At present, the Steinbeis network comprises more than 1000 Steinbeis enterprises with over 6000 employees and partners in more than 50 countries. Steinbeis enterprises are specialised and cover all technology and management areas. In 2007 the turnover of the Steinbeis network exceeded a 140 million Euros.
Since the early 1990’s members of the Solites staff have been working in the field of research, development and realisation of solar thermal systems, large scale solar thermal plants, energy efficient building, solar district heating systems and seasonal thermal energy storages.
Today, Solites works with all thermal energy systems that can be considered sustainable in terms of CO2-emissions reduction. Solites focuses on innovative technologies, which are not state of the art, or must be adapted to new boundary conditions.
Our business activities include all project phases ranging from basic and applied research, project development, development of technical concepts, system simulation, dimensioning and optimisation of complex thermal systems, accompaniment of design, tendering and construction phases, commissioning, optimisation of operation, monitoring and evaluation of measured data to consultancy regarding policy issues and market development.
